Today we explore funk metal alternatives for those who are played out on Red Hot Chili Peppers, or never really liked them to begin with. White Trash’s self titled album and Infectious Groove’s “The Plague that Makes Your Booty Move” will definitely do the trick. White Trash is a real ambitious gumbo mixed with vocals reminiscent of early Mike Patton and Axle Rose, a twist of Reel Big Fish, two parts 80s metal jam, and sprinkled with George Clinton. The ska influence can be heard with a heavy hand on the trumpet and saxaphone, but it is also very guitar heavy with lots of solos. The overall vibe here is for someone just trying to get laid, and have a good time. Skankin’ turns to slam dancing with our next album, as the dance floor open up into a mosh pit.

Infectious Grooves are definitely more punk influenced relying heavily on wild drums, and a slap bass that would give Flea a run for his money. The lyrical content hear is also fun, but definitely leans more towards being a little nuts. With a harder sound, the album creates a cocktail of punk and heavy metal combined with Morris Day & The Time. I mean “Infectious Grooves” is exactly what you get. And if you don’t feel the same, listen to “You Lie and Yo Breathe Stank”, because it’s talking to you. Both albums are a safe way to get your fix.
